It was financed in 2011 for 10 years under the French government ‘Laboratory of Excellence’ initiative. The ClerVolc project involves collaboration between six laboratories of Blaise Pascal University–CNRS, the French Geological Survey, and the Clermont Observatory of Terrestrial Physics, under the leadership of the Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans of Blaise Pascal University.

Le Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans (LMV) est une unité mixte de recherche de l’Université Blaise Pascal de Clermont-Ferrand (UBP), associée au Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, UMR 6524), à l’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD, UMR 163) et à l’Université Jean Monnet de Saint Etienne (UJM). C’est l’un des deux laboratoires de l’Observatoire de Physique du Globe de Clermont-Ferrand (OPGC).
